Health Testing

Randox at home Female Hormone Test

I recommend considering this test specifically for women in surgical menopause who may benefit from checking their hormone levels as part of assessing the absorption of their HRT, particularly if symptoms persist despite treatment.

Unlike natural perimenopause, when hormone levels can fluctuate significantly, women who have had their ovaries removed no longer experience the same ovarian hormone fluctuations. Blood testing can therefore sometimes provide useful additional information alongside symptoms and clinical assessment.

Convenient at-home testing

The test can be completed from the comfort of your own home using Randox's QuickDraw Premium Sample Collection Kit. There's no traditional finger-pricking required. The kit uses the Tasso+ device, which collects the blood sample from your upper arm, making the process quick and convenient.

A more detailed look at testosterone

An additional benefit is that the test doesn't look at serum testosterone alone. It also measures SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) and provides information on free testosterone, helping to give more context when interpreting testosterone status.

Gin's top tip: If you use transdermal HRT gel or spray on your arms, consider changing the application site for the week before collecting your sample. Oestrogen gel contamination around a blood-sampling site can potentially produce a falsely elevated oestradiol result. Follow your HRT product instructions when choosing an alternative application site and don't stop your HRT unless advised by your healthcare professional.

Blood results should always be considered alongside your symptoms, medical history and HRT regimen and discussed with your GP or menopause specialist. A single blood result shouldn't be used on its own to change your HRT dose.

Randox At-Home Thyroid Health Test

Thyroid problems and menopause can share a surprising number of symptoms, including fatigue, changes in weight, low mood, brain fog, sleep problems, changes in hair and skin, and feeling unusually hot or cold.

That's why I believe it's important not to automatically assume that every new symptom is caused by menopause. Checking your thyroid health can be one way of ruling out another potential contributor to how you're feeling.

More than standard thyroid testing

One of the things I particularly like about this test is the inclusion of thyroid antibodies, which aren't always included in a standard thyroid function blood test.

Thyroid antibodies can provide information about whether your immune system is reacting against your thyroid and may indicate an autoimmune thyroid condition, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Importantly, thyroid antibodies can sometimes be present before thyroid hormone levels become abnormal. This means someone may have positive antibodies while their TSH and thyroid hormones are still within the reference range.

Knowing this can be valuable because it gives you information to discuss with your GP and may mean your thyroid function can be monitored over time, particularly if you're experiencing symptoms or have other risk factors.

Convenient at-home testing

The Randox At-Home Thyroid Health Test allows you to check important thyroid markers without having to visit a clinic either by Quick Draw Tasso Technology or Finger prick test, making it a convenient option if you'd like a clearer picture of your thyroid health, what is also great about this test is it test

Your results can then help you have a more informed conversation with your GP or healthcare professional if anything needs further investigation.

Why might this be useful around menopause?

If you're experiencing symptoms that could be associated with menopause but something doesn't quite add up, particularly persistent tiredness, unexplained weight changes, feeling cold, changes to your hair or skin, or changes in your heart rate, it may be worth considering whether your thyroid could also be playing a part.

Randox General Health QuickDraw Test

Menopause symptoms can sometimes overlap with other health issues such as vitamin deficiency's or thyroid isuse's, so looking at your wider health picture can be useful rather than assuming every symptom is hormone-related.

The Randox General Health Test provides a broad overview of key health markers and may help identify areas that could be worth discussing further with your GP or healthcare professional.

Convenient at-home testing

Using Randox QuickDraw Premium Sample Collection Kit, you can collect your sample from the comfort of home, with no traditional finger-pricking needed.

The kit uses the innovative Tasso+ device, which collects blood from your upper arm, making at-home blood collection simple and convenient.

Why might this be useful during menopause?

Symptoms such as fatigue, low energy, brain fog and generally not feeling yourself aren't always caused by menopause alone. Checking general health markers can provide additional information and help you have a more informed conversation with your healthcare professional.

Randox Gut Microbiome Test

Gut health can be an important part of our overall wellbeing, and many women notice changes to their digestion around menopause, including bloating, changes in bowel habits and food tolerance.

The Randox Gut Microbiome Test provides an insight into the bacteria and other microorganisms living within your gut, helping you learn more about the composition and diversity of your individual gut microbiome.

Simple at-home testing

The test can be completed privately and conveniently from the comfort of your own home. You collect your sample using the kit provided and return it to Randox for analysis.

Why might this be interesting during menopause?

Our gut microbiome is involved in many aspects of health, including digestion, metabolism and immune function. Research is also exploring the relationship between the gut microbiome and oestrogen metabolism, sometimes referred to as the estrobolome.

Microbiome science is still developing, however, so I recommend viewing results as additional information about your gut rather than using them to diagnose a medical condition or explain menopause symptoms on their own.

Gin's top tip: Your gut loves variety! A varied diet containing plenty of different plant foods and sources of fibre can help support a diverse gut microbiome. Increase fibre gradually if your current intake is low.

Randox Everywoman Health Check

Women’s health is about so much more than hormones. The Randox Everywoman Health Check provides a comprehensive look at multiple areas of your health, helping you build a broader picture of what may be happening within your body.

This can be particularly useful around menopause because symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, changes in mood, poor sleep, changes in weight and low energy can have more than one possible cause. Menopause may be part of the picture, but we shouldn't automatically assume every symptom is down to hormones.

A comprehensive look at your health

The Everywoman Health Check analyses a wide range of biomarkers across different areas of health. Depending on the current Randox test package, these can include markers relating to:

Hormonal health

Thyroid health

Vitamin and nutritional status

Cholesterol and cardiovascular health

Blood sugar and metabolic health

Liver health

Kidney health

Iron and blood health

Inflammation

Why do I recommend it?

Thyroid conditions, iron or vitamin deficiencies, metabolic issues and other health conditions can sometimes produce symptoms that look very similar to those associated with perimenopause and menopause.

Having a broader range of markers checked can give you additional information and, importantly, something you can take to your GP or healthcare professional if a result needs further investigation.
